Romans 8:14 states “For as many are as led by the spirit of God , these are the Sons of God”.
In fact, everything you do in life, God wants to be a part of. His greatest desire is for you to walk in the knowledge of Him, so that you're not kept in the dark. Knowing God is simpler than it seems—He often speaks to us through our thoughts.Sometimes we don’t discern when God is speaking to us so He has to put roadblocks to redirect us.
But we have the responsibility of being able to discern and follow His voice. For example David was an effective leader in everything he did because he was consciously led by the spirit. We can also develop and even sharpen this in our lives too!
God has different ways of speaking to us but the primary way He speaks to us is inner witness.
Every Believer hears God through the inner witness but most want to hear God through a speculator experience.
Romans 8:16 states, “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are God's children.”
Since we are children of God, He will bear witness or reveal what He wants us to do in certain situations. It’s important to listen to this inner witness, because if we don’t, we may miss a step or two in the decisions we make. If we consistently choose not to listen, this witness can become less sharp over time. God can speak through another way, your conscience.
It is common for God to speak to us through our conscience. The word conscience is often described as the voice of our spirit. It functions whether we are born again or not.
However, when you become born again, your conscience becomes a safe and reliable way for God to speak to you, because your spirit has been recreated. At that point, God uses the voice of your spirit—your conscience—to minister to you.
Romans 9:1 validates that God speaks to us through our conscience, “I tell you the truth in Christ,I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me a witness in the Holy Spirit” .
But over time, if you repeatedly ignore your conscience, you will lose sensitivity to spiritual things, and eventually that voice will be dead.
The Bible even confirms in 2 Timothy 1:4 “In latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron”.
As believers we don't want our conscience to be seared or to be okay with action or belief that contradicts the inner witness. Besides the inner witness and conscience God speaks to us through visions too!
Visions are another way that God uses to speak to us in the realm of visions there are three categories.
Spiritual visions occur when you see things through the eyes of your spirit. Most of the time, this happens during prayer, or even while simply sitting quietly, you may begin to see pictures. In fact, when Paul was on the road to Damascus, he was blind, yet he was still seeing things through the eyes of the spirit.
“About noon the following day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.”
A trance can occur anywhere, and its purpose is for God to reveal something to you. It may happen in prayer, in everyday life, or even at church when someone falls under the power of the Holy Spirit.
One notable example of an open vision is found in Acts 12:6–10:
“The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. ‘Quick, get up!’ he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. Then the angel said to him, ‘Put on your clothes and sandals.’ And Peter did so. ‘Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,’ the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.”
